Cajun Dirty Rice Recipe
Try some cajun style cooking in your rice cooker with this dirty rice recipe. If you’re looking to make an authentic recipe dirty rice traditionally might use chicken leftovers – some dark meat, chicken gizzards and livers. If you want to whomp up some real cajun dirty rice, go right ahead and substitute our hamburger or sausage for your leftover chicken parts.
Prep: 20 minutes Total: 60 minutes
Cajun Dirty Rice Recipe Ingredients
1 # ground meat per person – either sausage or hamburger
1 1/3 cup water or low sodium, fat free broth
dash low sodium Worsteshire Sauce
dash Cajun seasoning
1 cup chopped onions
2 t. minced garlic/person
1/2 cup uncooked rice (brown works fine, it just cooks longer)
Fry the meat, onions, garlic and celery with a small amount of liquid until cooked. Place meat into the rice cooker with seasonings, rinsed, uncooked rice and liquid. Set to Cook. DO NOT open lid when rice cooker switches to Keep Warm function, let it remain on warm an additional 15 minutes. Open rice cooker lid and stir. Add a little Tabasco if you like it spicy. Serve and enjoy!
