Peas and Rice – Jamaican Style Recipe
Rice and peas is a staple dish for many people in Jamaica, often served with Jerk chicken.
Jamaican Rice and Peas Recipe Ingredients
2 cups parboiled rice or Brown Rice (measure in rice cooker measuring cup)
3 Sprig Thyme
2 cloves garlic
2 scallions – green onions
1 tsp. Sea salt
1/2 tsp. Cayenne Pepper
1 can green pigeon peas with coconut milk
4 cups of water (use the correct amount for your rice cooker)
Jamaican Rice Recipe Directions
Place rice and water in rice cooker inner pot and combine with the green pigeon peas with coconut milk.
Add the salt, pepper, thyme, garlic and scallions and stir well.
Turn on rice cooker and cook until cycle is complete and cooker switches to KEEP WARM mode.
The rice and peas may be served with meat or other dishes if desired, fried or jerk chicken is a traditional jamaican favorite.
